Z simple earrings

These earrings are the last living piece of the Z series. The rest are no longer made: they were beautiful, but hard to produce and very costly to plate, and a piece only exists if its final price is one someone can actually pay.

The series grew out of Art Deco, linked to an earlier one about horizon lines. And that one was born of a creative block. Maite had a collection due in January and, come December, she had nothing, not a single idea. It was Juanjo who told her to go and look for it somewhere, and so she went to Tarifa in December with the January collection hanging over her.

There, in the calm and the solitude, she realised that having nothing is already having something, because nothingness is something too. The question became where emptiness begins. And one day, looking at the horizon from the beach, she saw it: the horizon is everything and, at the same time, just a line. A single line can be an entire series.

That is why Maite resists retiring this piece. It is what remains of that idea, and she wants it to stay.

The pieces in the Z series were costly precisely because of the process: a great deal of making and a great deal of plating. Of them all, this was the one that came out at a reasonable price without giving up on the design, and that is why it remains in the collection.

Today it is made within the Sumatra collection.

They are made on Calle Alameda, in the Barrio de las Letras, in a workshop you are welcome to visit. If you come by, you will probably see the next pair taking shape.

Simple and geometric, they are the kind you wear every day and that go with anything: denim, a suit or a dress. Gold and without enamel, they never compete with whatever else you are wearing.

The lacquer protects the plating from contact with skin and perfume. Keep them dry and stored separately, and avoid putting on fragrance while wearing them. With normal wear and this care, the gold plating lasts for years.
