W Lazo brooch

The brooch belongs to the Brave! collection, and this series was inspired by the flight of the ribbon in rhythmic gymnastics routines.

Maite has a personal fascination with rhythmic gymnastics, with all of its routines, whether with the ball or the ribbon. But the ribbon is the one she finds beautiful: the whole of its flight, the drawings it makes in the air. One day she wondered what a photograph of that flight would look like.

The brooch is a little piece of that flight. And since the ribbon flies everywhere, not just through the air but around the face and body too, it is as if a fragment had caught on your jacket.

The colour comes from there too. Ribbons tend to be colourful, and Maite is a big fan of rhythmic gymnastics leotards, always in bright, vibrant colours.

The red in this series is an enamel called ruby. It has a bluish depth: it is not a red that stays on the surface, it seems to have something underneath. Maite loved that shade, and against the matte gold it felt just like a ribbon routine.

It is enamelled by hand, piece by piece, which is why each brooch has its own intensity.

It is made on Calle Alameda, in the Barrio de las Letras, in a workshop you are welcome to visit. If you come by, you will probably see the next one being made.

Wear it wherever you like. On a jacket or coat lapel, of course, but brooches are increasingly worn on the details: to gather a skirt and ruche it slightly, or on a shirt, at the collar button, right where the points sit on either side. A brooch this size looks wonderful there and gives the shirt a touch of colour. The same bow comes as a ring, earrings, a pendant and a bracelet.

The hypoallergenic coating protects the piece and the enamel from contact with skin and perfume. Keep it dry and stored separately, and avoid putting on scent while wearing it. With normal wear and this care, the gold plating lasts for years.
