Face bracelet

The Face series belongs to the Rising Up! collection, and the name says it all: getting back up. It was born from a difficult personal moment, from the need for things to be reborn and to face up to them. Get up and face it, because that is the only way forward. Hence Face: facing up. Behind it is "Be Still" by The Killers, which Maite was listening to at the time.

The bracelet carries on the sense of play that runs through the whole series. Face is a playful, pleasure-loving series, hence the splash of colours. Maite thought of it from other people's point of view: whoever looks at the bracelet from the outside sees a sort of coloured polka dots on your wrist.

Enamel on a curved surface brings an extra challenge: the drop tends to run and gather on the inside. Across the three strands of this bracelet the problem multiplies, because the colour has to stay even along the whole curve so that you read the volume, not the weight of the enamel. It is cold-enamelled, piece by piece.

The bracelet is soldered on one side only; on the other, the strands are left open. It looks subtle and fine, but technically it is strong and made to last: those two things had to go together.

Where the wire meets each little shell there is a tiny solder point, small but strong enough to keep it from coming loose, because the shell stands slightly proud, in relief on the wrist.

It is made on Calle Alameda, in the Barrio de las Letras, in a workshop you are welcome to visit. If you come by, you will probably see the next one being worked on.

Fifteen centimetres, for every day, and it looks just as good on its own as stacked with another bracelet. The two colours are designed to be mixed with each other and with the rest of Face: ring, earrings, necklace and brooch.

The hypoallergenic coating protects the piece from contact with skin and perfume. Keep it dry and stored separately, and avoid putting on scent while you are wearing it. With normal wear and this care, the gold plating will last for years.
