Face S earrings

The Face series belongs to the Rising Up! collection, whose title says it all: getting back on your feet. It grew out of a difficult personal moment, out of the need for things to be reborn and to face them head-on. Get up and face it, because that is the only way forward. Hence Face: facing up.

There is a song behind it too: "Be Still" by The Killers, from the album Battle Born. Maite was listening to it at the time, and she hears it as a song written for one's children and everything that lies ahead of them: don't fall apart, never stop being yourselves, let no one else set your limits. Play it, and you'll understand where the name of the series comes from.

It is the same idea Maite returns to whenever she is asked what advice she would give someone starting out: be true to your instinct. Otherwise, later on you won't be able to stand behind what you make; you won't have the arguments.

Enamel on a curved surface brings an added difficulty: the drop tends to slide down and pool on the inside.

Here the aim was for the shell to be enamelled evenly at every level, so that you read the volume of the piece rather than the weight of the colour.

The pieces are enamelled one by one, which is why the series comes as a scattering of colours rather than a single shade.

They are made on Calle Alameda, in the Barrio de las Letras, in a workshop you are welcome to visit. If you come by, you will probably see the next pair being made.

They are the small piece of Face, for every day. As the series is conceived as a play of colours, they can be worn mismatched, one of each colour, which is exactly how Maite imagined them. They also come in an L version.

The lacquer protects the plating and the enamel from contact with skin and perfume. Keep them dry and stored separately, and avoid putting on scent while wearing them. With normal wear and this care, the gold plating lasts for years.
