Hiedra small earrings

What makes these earrings interesting is their size, and that's no accident.

They are small, but not tiny. They needed presence while still being able to hide behind your hair. That is exactly the idea behind Shelter: the search for a refuge. Something that is there, calm, half concealed. But there all the same.

They are the most understated take on the ivy, the same leaf that runs through the whole collection.

Each leaf is cut, sanded and polished by hand before its 24-carat gold plating. The coloured ones then go on to be enamelled, which in Shelter is done over a transparent base so the pattern of the leaf's veins still shows through beneath the red.

Each is painted by hand, one by one, which is why the autumnal red is never quite the same on two pairs.

They are made on Calle Alameda, in the Barrio de las Letras, in a workshop you are welcome to visit. If you drop by, you'll most likely see the next pair taking shape.

They are for every day, designed to be worn however feels most comfortable to you. With your hair down, they peek out and disappear as you move. With it tied up or cut short, they stay in view, adding a touch of colour and a glint of light to your look. If you'd like more presence, the same leaf comes in medium and long versions.

The lacquer protects the plating and the enamel from contact with skin and perfume. Keep them dry and stored separately, and avoid putting on scent while you're wearing them. With everyday wear and this little bit of care, the gold plating will last for years.
