Hiedra long earrings

Ivy grows where it shouldn't. It clings to a wall, travels across it and ends up becoming part of it. That idea (something that finds its own way without asking permission) is where these earrings came from, within the Shelter collection.

Shelter speaks of the places where we take refuge and of what grows in them when no one is looking. Each piece in the collection is an act of the same play.

Each leaf is cut, filed and polished by hand before receiving its 24-carat gold plating. The coloured ones then go on to be enamelled: painted by hand, one at a time, which is why the autumn red never falls in quite the same way on two pairs.

It is the most time-consuming part of the process, and the one that makes the piece recognisable from three metres away.

They are made on Calle Alameda, in the Barrio de las Letras, in a workshop you are welcome to visit. If you come by, you will probably see the next pair being enamelled.

They are long but weigh just seven grams, so you can wear them all day without noticing. They look lovely with your hair up and a simple neckline, and they work just as well with jeans as with a wedding dress.

If you like the idea but would prefer something more understated, they also come in medium and small versions.

The lacquer protects the plating from contact with skin and perfume. Keep them dry and stored separately, and avoid putting on fragrance while wearing them. With normal wear and this care, the gold plating lasts for years.
